Synopsis: When 11-year-old Hayden finds a forgotten handheld camera in the junk room upstairs, his single mother is forced to reckon with a past she has tried to keep from him.
Handheld explores our sister’s complicated response to the moment her son found a forgotten relic related to her past. Our nephew plays a version of himself in a fictionalized narrative based on true events, featuring actual archival footage. We wanted to highlight the gap in communication that exists between a mother and child. How does she protect him from the pain of learning too much?
