Synopsis: In the late 1800’s
Hans and Kari Seim
immigrated from Norway
to South Dakota,
bringing with them
a cabin built in Montana
from hand hewn logs
– transporting it over 100 miles
by horse and wagon
to their homestead.
Kari passed away soon afterward
due to complications
with the birth of their baby daughter
Lena.
Hans died the following year
in a fatal horse accident,
leaving his eldest daughter, Bessie
to raise her six younger siblings,
including her three sisters,
Anna, Clara, and little Lena.
Bessie and Lena died
tragically in a blizzard,
freezing to death together
only a short distance
from the log cabin.
They were buried by
Anna, Clara and their brothers
in a shared grave
in the Seim family cemetery
alongside their parents.
This video is filmed in the cabin
and at the Seim homestead.

Director's Statement
The current sociopolitical climate of the Great Plains cannot be understood without understanding the complicated and heartbreaking history influencing the motivations of the people involved. I’m here to tell all sides of the story and hopefully connect people by sparking conversation.
