Synopsis: The Incredible Lamont tells the story of Lamont Ream, an elderly magician who has spent his life bringing astonishment to the people of Colorado in the form of Escape Artistry, close up restaurant magic, and stage show performances. Very much an old school entertainer and visionary inventor, Lamont could be summed up as “Houdini with a sunnier disposition.” In this short documentary, See how this elderly illusionist’s magic extends beyond cards and coins to his work as live in caretaker for his mentally ill relative Abel Romero.

Elderly magician Lamont Ream has spent a lifetime astonishing audiences with illusions and escape artistry. Obsessed with magic from an early age, Lamont knew it was the only thing he wanted to do with his life. Up until recently, his only job was being a magician; but when his family reached out, asking for help, he graciously accepted the call and became the live-in caregiver for Abel Ramero, his disabled in-law. Lamont’s contributions to the world far exceed sleight of hand, they embody the human spirit in it’s finest form.

Director's Statement

I first met The Incredible Lamont in his element, performing his mind bending close up magic, at a quaint family restaurant. I had recently quit my job as an adventure filmmaker, had zero budget, but knew immediately that this happy grandpa magician would be the focus of my most ambitious documentary yet.

As I dug in, I found the story to be surprising, unique, and more magnificent than I could have expected. I learned of Lamont’s daring past, full of handcuff escapes and dangling upside down in straight jackets. Most importantly I learned of Lamont’s second job as live-in caregiver for his mentally challenged relative Abel Romero, who suffers from brain damage and schizophrenia. I found myself weaving together the story of a man committed to concealing the truth, and the tragedy of another whose mind cannot understand the truth.

This film is my cinematic representation of two wonderful characters that will transport the audience into a world of old school magic and limitless compassion. I would like to thank all my friends, family, and the community of Boulder who helped to make this project possible. I hope you enjoy the magic of The Incredible Lamont.

Director's Bio

Taylor Keating is an award winning documentary filmmaker living in Boulder, Colorado. “The Incredible Lamont” is his sixth film but his first outside the adventure film genre. In 2014, Taylor traveled the world making films such as “Of Choss and Lions” and “The Fledgelings.” He continued his career back in Colorado and directed two more films, “Safety Third,” and “Stumped,” both of which were character studies. His desires began to shift and his interest in the human spirit flourished. After he finished the crowd favorite “Queen Maud Land,” Taylor decided it was time for a course correction and began the journey that would become “The Incredible Lamont.”
