2015-2020 Burien Film Festival Hyperlocal Retrospective
Synopsis: In 2015, the first Burien Film Festival was held in conjunction with the third Burien UFO Festival. The rules were simple:
Max length: 5-7 min.
It had to include a man in black
It had to include a chase scene
It had to highlight a Burien neighborhood (there are 18)
And it had to highlight at least two businesses in that neighborhood, or a nearby neighborhood if the ‘hood was mostly residential.
In 2017 the International Contest was born to expand the focus of the festival, and bring the world to Burien. As a result, the initial local-focused contest was named the Hyperlocal Burien Contest. Each year the rules have been slightly different, but the requirement to highlight local businesses and neighborhoods has remained the same.
