Synopsis: In 2013 the viticultural conditions in Napa and Sonoma were absolutely perfect. ‘A Perfect Vintage’ follows the journey of some of the world’s finest winemakers as they dance to the unpredictable rhythms of Mother Nature, taking advantage of the most epic vintage in years and the rare opportunity to ‘call their pick’ based solely on taste. Wine is the voice of the vineyard – a living quintessence of all that went into creating it – the land, the weather, the people, and ultimately the fruit – each bottle a liquid time capsule. Beautiful cinematography showcases the sublime beauty of one of the world’s top wine growing regions and the most romantic aspect of terroir – the people. With a backstage pass to Napa, Winemakers, Vintners, and Sommeliers share their passions and techniques in bringing that perfect bottle of wine from the vine to your table – wine being one of the few crafted products where you can trace it’s origin back to where it’s from and to the people who made it. From pruning to pouring, tasting notes to the point system, watch as both winemakers and wine critics discover that 2013 was truly ‘A Perfect Vintage’.

In 2013 I began a two sided passion project that would combine my love for filmmaking with my passion for wine. And fortunately for me I have a brother – winemaker Timothy Milos – who could afford me a “backstage pass” to one of the most elite wine making regions on the planet – Napa Valley California. Like a crafted fine wine, a documentary film is a long and detailed process. One that takes a village. Working closely with family and friends – including Tom Graves who joined the project bringing his shared passion for filmmaking, wine and his drone skills to the party – we enjoyed many serendipitous moments along the way. One morning Tom and I got up early to capture a sunrise and the famous Napa hot air balloons. We found ourselves staged right next to what would soon become a balloon landing zone. From liftoff to landing, the majestic flights soared right before our eyes – and lenses. Each balloon’s course, determined by the hand of the pilot yet ultimately at the whims of Mother Nature, became a metaphor for the year in the journey of a winemaker. A Vintage. A Perfect Vintage. And as wine is at it’s best when shared with people that you love, I hope that sharing you this film with you brings you a similar joy. Pair it with your favorite wine – I hope the film”tastes” as good to you as it does to me. Cheers!
Troy Christian started his journey in the entertainment industry as a professional musician – playing woodwinds and as a musical director and producer. Simultaneously, with a lifelong passion for theater and movement, Troy took his dancing shoes to New York to train at the Joffrey School of Ballet, Broadway Dance Center and Steps – his hard work and proper training leading to a long career dancing and acting on Broadway, on television and in film – one that continues to this day. (Credits including: RENT, Rango, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Muppet Movie, Deadwood, Disjointed and Forrest Gump). For Troy, the natural progression to choreography and creative direction would soon follow. From theater to television and film, Troy has created hundreds of theatrical productions, television shows, commercials, music videos, films, and corporate events including: Usher, Ellen, Lily Allen, Dolly Parton, Universal Studios, Elvira, Princess Cruises, Paramount Theme Parks, Disney, Jimmy Kimmel, Harley Davidson, and The Industry Dance Awards. In 2007 Troy received the Choreography Media Honors Award presented at the Directors Guild of America for his work on the feature film Adam & Steve (Craig Chester, Parker Posey, Malcom Getz, Chris Kattan). In 1999, Troy began studying the art (and science) of filmmaking. Already with a keen understanding of composition and choreography, timing and music, and now cameras, technology and editing, his evolution to film director and editor was nearly seamless. Credits include: A Perfect Vintage (Documentary), Sam Presents (Short), The Evolution of Stem Cell Research (Documentary featuring Leonard Nimoy), Naked Boys Singing (Feature Film of Off Broadway Musical), Nuts and Bolts – the Making of Adam & Steve, The Making of Adrian Zmed in Concert (Documentary) as well as many television commercials and music videos. Troy’s path as an artist has afforded him the ability to utilize all of his creative talents congruently. With the ability to conceive, write and design, to speak the language of music, dance, and choreography, as well as the ability to see through the camera lens with the eye of an editor, Troy has literally “stepped into” his life’s work as an exceptionally diverse creative director.
