Synopsis: Two young men try to navigate through the dating world but never seem to find what they’re after… love. CHECK/MATE is a funny drama that shows the male perspective on the dating landscape along with the barriers they have to overcome.
In 2019 I wanted to write a personal story of mine about my dating experiences. I was confused about social norms in our society. For example, women push for equality in relationships and are more independent, but are traditional when it’s time to pay for the check. Men want to have relations with women, but don’t always want a “relationship.” I would often ask myself If a woman really wanted to get to know me, why would it matter if I payed for the whole check or not? Why is that such a deal breaker? So I decided to write down both sides of the story to show how we, as human beings, play games, put up fronts and lie, even though all we really want is true love.
