Synopsis: A different kind of coming out. When a young moody Millennial reveals his HIV status in a queer support group, it sends Poe, a not so traditional gay priest who mentors the group, in search of his own inner truth. Set within the constructs of a repressive system of thinking, Disciple explores how beliefs that are set on a foundation of shame and guilt must be dismantled in order to truly heal, accept and forgive the self.

Father Poe has always been the outsider and has been running away from himself ever since he can remember; living life unconsciously, running on programs he’s never fully examined, repressing his own emotions in service of others. Sacrificing who is to feel worthy. But when we deny and repress who we are it affects our thoughts and our actions, holding us in a repetitive cycle of self-destruction and repenting.

We can remain lost in this momentum until a circumstance or situation comes along that wakes us up from our unconscious dream. Once we are awakened we are faced with a choice; transform or die.

Director's Bio

A multi-faceted artist, Sebastian LaCause has been expressing through the performing arts since childhood. First as a professional dancer, working on Broadway, then as an actor in television and film. In 2011 Sebastian began to expand his artistry into storytelling with his provocative digital series Hustling, where he served as writer, director, producer and editor. Hustling ran for three seasons on his Youtube Channel and racked up over six million views, a number of Indie Series Awards and a Webby Award Nomination in the long-form drama category in 2014. With no formal training, a willingness to learn on the fly and a passion for storytelling, Sebastian parlayed the skills he learned filming Hustling and helmed the independent comedy series He’s With Me for two seasons and then the dramady Life’s A drag, also independently produced and distributed on Youtube. Sebastian not only directed, but also shot both series, did the editing and music supervised. His narrative short, DISCIPLE marks his first venture into filmmaking.
