Director's Statement

Masterson, I was trepidatious. I knew Mark on a personal level, but knew very little about horses. It was only as I started to dive into their work that I realized how revolutionary and universal the message behind their methods is. It is with this in mind that I sought to make a documentary. A MIND LIKE STILL WATER encourages us to realize that we have the power to change our lives and the story we live by, at any time. That it is never too late. Mark and Jim remind us that if you want to bring softness into any one aspect of your life, you need to be willing and ready to incorporate it into all the other aspects of your life as well. And, most of all, you must be ready to be softer, kinder and more gracious to yourself. I told Mark and Jim my goal was to make a film that reaches beyond the horse community, conveying the power of their message and how it is applicable to anyone’s life. It’s a pleasure to share ‘A Mind Like Still Water’ and to be able to call it my directorial debut.
