Director's Bio

Michael Slowe has been making films for over 50 years starting with 8mm film, then with 16mm film, and now high definition (HD) video.

As a very experienced and prolific documentary filmmaker, a number of his films produced over the years have won numerous major awards in international festivals and competitions as well as being broadcast from time to time. Six of the films below have been screened at the National Film Theatre, with awards being presented on stage by Joan Collins and Michael Winner among others. The productions are totally ‘non commercial’ being made purely for the artistic satisfaction in so doing. He mostly specialises in documentaries and impressionistic essays cut to music. Latterly he has sought out interesting and eccentric characters with unusual occupations and some of these films are available here. Favourites being ‘The Last of The Wolfgang’, featuring the last surviving member of the world famous Amadeus string quartet from the last century, ‘Hounds & The Huntsman,’ featuring a charismatic huntsman caring for and training his pack of hounds and ‘Melissa’, a female trapeze artist who has worked in many different environments.

There are some films of interest to artists. ‘On Silk’ featuring the silk painter Tony Wigg, the portrait artist Tim Benson in ‘Painter’, a bronze casting workshop in ‘Bronze Age’, and a group of potters in ‘Potter’s Lunch’. A list of films is shown below, in groups according to genre. Many of the earlier productions have had the aspect re conformed to fit better on modern screens.
