death isn’t the same anymore sprung from an idea I had after watching my mother succumb to an aggressive form of cancer in 2013. It struck me that a bed, this inanimate object, travels with us throughout life, as the place we’re born, the place we die, and everything in between. I also still had many of the beds from my childhood and an antique family bed in my possession. I wanted to explore what I could I do with these items in an interesting and visual way to depict a person’s story and their relationship to their bed, the expansion of youth, the quickening of adulthood, and the acceptance of death, and how all of life is cyclical in nature. Artistically, death isn’t the same anymore is a layered visual and auditory work that combines visuals, poetry, sounds and music in an evocative way that explores emotions, time, connectedness and human existence.

Jennifer Mulligan is a screenwriter and director from Gatineau, Quebec. She completed her first short film “death isn’t the same anymore” as a recipient of the SAW Video Jumpstart Grant. She’s been screenwriting professionally since 2010. From 2011 until the end of 2014, Jennifer worked for Alex Epstein (Montreal director and screenwriter) as a remote Research Assistant. During the time, she worked on film crews in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto. In 2013, she had the opportunity to work as the assistant to a producer for the Australian feature film produced in Ottawa, Tell The World. Jennifer has been hired by several Ottawa producers and directors to write, polish and consult on feature film scripts. Jennifer’s script Minerva’s War was a finalist in the Lady Filmmakers Festival in 2014. It was optioned for production by the festival as part of their Script-to-Screen Initiative. Her television show The Dart League Diaries was optioned by TSB Productions. She’s repped by Insignia Entertainment.
