Director's Statement
This film came from a very personal place for me and my co-creator, Christina Moore. In 2013, one couple in our circle of friends discovered they were pregnant, and it felt like everything was about to change. We wanted to capture this special moment in time while we were all still together. We filmed at our friends’ North Hollywood home when Hallee was nine months pregnant and we wrote dialogue based on real conversations we’d had with one another, about sex and babies and our uncertain futures. We wanted to shoot it in a single unedited shot, to create the feeling of immediacy we loved so much from theatre, our first love. With the help of our brilliant cinematographer, Alejandro Wilkins, we achieved our vision and used the entirety of take number twelve. Thus, Take 12 Productions was born. Our film proved to be prophetic and, not long after we wrapped, our pregnant friends gave birth and moved their family from North Hollywood to North Carolina. This was, indeed, the last dinner party.
