With commentary from Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Fame running back Franco Harris and 49ers All-Pro Tight End, George Kittle, and Head Coach Kyle Shanahan, OPEN FIELD tells the story of the women who leave everything on the field in their drive for greatness, earning recognition and respect.
Open Field provides an inside look at women in tackle football across the globe. The film showcases women trailblazers of tackle football including Sami Grisafe, three-time quarterback for Team USA and the first female quarterback to play in a California Division I H.S. game, and Katie Sowers, the first woman in NFL history to coach in a Super Bowl.

We knew this incredible story had to be told,” explains Director and Producer Kathy Kuras of Vanguard Muse. “These women not only won US championships, they went on to conquer the world, despite the hurdles and the setbacks.”
Director's Bio
Kathy Kuras is co-founder with Vanguard Muse, an independent music and film company. Kathy led the development of the first video storytelling production department for the national office of the YMCA. Vanguard Muse’s first studio album, ATLANTIS, with Sami Grisafe received 6 Grammy pre-nominations. Open Field, Kathy’s first feature documentary film, premiered at the Austin Film Festival in 2020 and won the Best Documentary Audience Award at the Riverside International Film Festival. Kathy resides in Austin, TX, where she is the President & CEO of the YMCA of Austin.
