Synopsis: AVAILABLE AUGUST 19th AND 28th | 10:00 AM – MIDNIGHT

Portrait of Lee Moses, highly gifted deep soul singer and songwriter long forgotten by his hometown Atlanta.

Lee Moses made one album and recorded about thirty songs. Most of them were covers of other songs.

He became a legend among deep soul record collectors and general music fans. Often compared to James Brown or Jimi Hendrix, his only album Time and Place, was recorded in New York and released in 1971. It was a commercial failure forcing Lee Moses to return to his hometown to never record again. What happened to the man nicknamed the “Duke of Soul” ?

This is the portrait of a man who was a good friend, a brother and a top-notch musician. Through his music, life and hometown, this is a featured documentary about the life and death of Lee Moses.

Director's Bio

Swiss-born filmmaker Simon David was born in 1994 and comes from a multicultural background with an American mother and a Dutch father.

At a very young age, he developed a passion for cinema and visual arts. This passion led him to study at the School of Graphic Research (ERG) in Brussels, Belgium where he graduated in 2017.
His first major film production was a short documentary about a 13-year old Belgian farmer named Guillaume. Simon co-directed this film.

In 2018, Simon travelled to Atlanta, Georgia with his cat and began work on Time And Place – a documentary about soul singer and songwriter Lee Moses.

In Time and Place, Simon tells the story of Lee Moses’ and the underground music scene in 1970’s Atlanta. He explores the struggles and missed opportunities Moses encountered in his lifetime, as one example of the larger exploitation of African American musicians during this period. Today Moses has a large cult following from France to New Zealand.

In September 2019, Simon completed production of Time and Place and left to live in Romania for a couple of months working in a Montessori school and exploring post USSR life before coming back to the US promoting the documentary about Lee Moses.

Simon David is a photographer and documentary filmmaker interested in telling stories of people who have a peculiar relation to their urban environment.
