Synopsis: 138: Last Day, follows HR manager Sidney, who after thirty years of working at an industrial sock factory faces a challenging dilemma that could affect the livelihood of his employees. We find him wandering around the now empty workplace haunted by the memories of his past colleagues, friends, and bosses. Throughout his journey he is confronted head on by the horrific consequences of his actions. Will he make the right choice at the end of his last day?

Starring Tyrone Huggins, George Khan and thirty young performers from the University of Roehampton’s Drama, Theatre and Performance department 138: Last Day is a short dreamlike drama about power, loss and loyalty.

The film is written by Gareth Brierley and Fiona Creese and directed by Gareth Brierley. Sound Design and Editing are by Rob Kennedy, the Art Director is Jessica Worrall and Jonathan Bloom is the Director of Photography.

Director's Statement

Our work, whether theatre or film, always succeeds from the contributions of the people in the room both onstage and off. Everyone is an important part of the process, everyone should be listened to and everyone is an artist.

Director's Bio

Gareth Brierley is an director, actor, writer and theatre-maker based in London. As a long-standing member of People Show he has helped devise many of their performances and was also the director of the company’s first film The Jossers. Most recently with his company White Rabbit he created the short film Self Driving Cars. 

He has worked as a Performer/writer for companies like the RSC, People Show, Stans Café, Manchester Royal Exchange and Forced Entertainment. He appeared in the short film Stanley Pickle, which won over 30 awards as well as the award winning web series Pitches. While working in devised theatre and making his own work, he has written over 80 shows. This includes the play Nice People that won the Brighton Festival Angel Award back in 2008 for Artistic Excellence and was shown on Sky Arts for a number of years. With White Rabbit, he has set up a night called “Are You Sitting Comfortably” in London, showcasing over 1000 writers and their short stories.
