Synopsis: It took my father’s death for me to realize he was hiding a big secret… A doctor, an anesthesiologist who worked for over 30 years in his field, we looked like the picture perfect family, despite my parent’s divorce. But he was hiding something behind his hospital scrubs, something that would bring out his quick temper and aggression. While he was saving lives he himself fell victim to another form of disease: addiction. At the age of 15 my brother Alex left my father’s house and I soon followed while my other brothers Noah and Justin stayed, the family divided. After we all separated things quickly spiraled, my brother Justin started using too. They became enablers to one another. Eventually drugs would be the cause of my father’s death in 2015. I was angry and ashamed of my dad. I thought he had a choice to choose us or the drugs. But now five years have passed and I get a second chance at understanding this disease my brother struggles with everyday.
