Synopsis: In the clutches of a manic episode, our BOY is committed to Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital where he is forced to coexist with a medley of volatile inpatients. Among them is our GIRL, a hypersensitive depressive, days removed from her last suicide attempt.

Though hospital policy forbids patient romances, one between them quickly develops and they fall deeply in love. They realize immediately that Boy’s mania is subdued by Girl’s soothing nature and in turn, her depression is elevated by his infectious passion.

But after a blissful beginning, Girl’s past ghosts return to haunt her, exacerbated by Boy’s overwhelming intensity and intractable hubris. After terminating the relationship, our Girl rushes to the ledge of the hospital roof. Boy runs out afterwards and when faced with the risk of losing themselves…as well as each other…the answer to one simple question will decide their fate…

Director's Statement

“A Bellevue Love Story” is based on experiences from my past that informed and altered the trajectory of my life in immeasurable ways. It sparked a dialogue within myself about love, hope, despair and how the mentally ill must attempt to navigate it all.

It is my hope that this unprecedented love story will not only entertain and inspire, but also play a small role in continuing another ongoing dialogue…how we treat the mentally ill in this country.
