Director's Statement

My dream has always been to make movies, but I never really knew how or had the confidence to do so. Someone told me earlier this year just go write something, get a few friends and go out and make one, at the end of the day what did I have to lose. So that’s what I did and in July 2018 I made my very first short film. That film was Underland.

You never expect your first film to go anywhere but in just a few short months it has won several awards in LA and made the Official Selection at a number of Film Festivals. This is the start of my dreams and goals coming true. My second film saw a massive increase in crew and even gained an actor who has worked for many years in the British TV industry. I am working with Producers in America on a feature film, as well as working on a British feature and developing my very own feature film. What started as a bit of fun to finally do something I love, has turned into a developing career.

With the right attitude and motivation you can achieve anything you want and makes your dreams come true. I am a strong advocate for Women in Film and Women in Horror and hope to push my way into the industry as a strong Writer and Director.

Quotes

The visual look of the film utilises the black and white style to brilliantly create the dark gothic tone of the film, which is reminiscent of the Universal horror films and classic Hammer Horror. From the beautiful landscape shots of the castle, to the more angled scenic within the graveyard, which work especially well to create the eerie atmosphere by utilising the location. - Philip Rogers, Blazing Minds

Adam is a brilliantly entertaining short from writer-director Gemma Paul, who continues to showcase herself as an upcoming director to watch out for, thanks to her stunning visual style and creative storytelling. The film perfectly encapsulates a gothic horror feel and is beautifully shot. - Philip Rogers, Blazing Minds

Black and white cinematography and VFX of electric sparks in the setting of an old laboratory and of a cemetery, give this short an atmosphere of WW2 - sci-fi/horror tale, creating a reminiscence of settings like "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" and stories like those. - Unknown, Feel the Reel
