Director's Statement

As a writer, director and comedian, my brand has always been DIGNITY. I create character-driven stories of hardships met with humor, silliness, strength and tenderness. Of late, as an artist, activist and a woman, I’ve veered into an area a little darker: FEAR and how we use comedy to cope with the horror of the mundane. In 3 DAYS, three women friends are scared by a sound in the woods, and cheer themselves up by teasing each other. Their best defense against an unknowable threat is to find their fears collectively ridiculous and laugh at them together. When we realize to our horror at the end of the film that it’s been just one woman all along, wishing her friends into existence in the hope that their love and lightness saves her, it fills us with dread and sadness. This is how women in the public sphere feel all the time. We are warned not to travel alone, drink alone, eat alone, walk alone, run alone, live alone. We are not safe alone. As women rebel against these boundaries, so we are met with mortal real life consequences, and in our escape from this reality we lean on each other for empowerment and recognition. 3 DAYS is an anecdotal horror story about women’s bodies in public space and the role that female friendships play in our bravery. I hope that every person who watches it thinks in a new way about the fear women face every day, and the love, humor and courage that keeps our engines running.
