Synopsis: When Sam, a lifelong surfer, moved to South Dakota in 1992 to start a buffalo ranch, he didn’t think he was giving up surfing but before he knew it 25 years had gone by and he hadn’t surfed even once. Now at age 65, overweight and out of shape, Sam travels to Costa Rica to see if he can bring surfing back into his life.
There is a tipping point with aging beyond which renders us incapable or less capable of doing the things we used to enjoy. None of us know for sure where we are in relation to that tipping point unless we stretch ourselves and try to do things we aren’t certain we can. Drop In Or Drop Out tells the story of a 65 year old buffalo rancher and former daily surfer’s quest to bring surfing back into his life after having gone 25 years without surfing. This journey did not unfold the way I expected and in many ways that made it a more compelling story and less typical of most adventure stories.
