Director's Statement
The words ‘risk’ and ‘danger’ are words not usually associated with the feminine, and yet taking risks and accepting challenges are deeply important aspects of being able to understand one’s self, something everyone should have the opportunity to do, despite their gender. As a woman, I never realized how few physical risks I took until I started taking them three years ago, when I started climbing. I felt that I was inexperienced in dealing with my fear and controlling my anxiety, and that I had few role models to look to for support. I think women pushing their limits should be talked about more, and women should be encouraged to be resilient and to take risks as much as men. I think that this is important as it is through challenge, and the enjoyment of challenge that we can discover a lot about ourselves. Overcoming challenges is part of what makes us who we are.
