Director's Bio

Francois-Xavier “Fix” De Ruydts is a film maker and photographer based in Vancouver, Canada.

As a Ms.Sc. Geographer, Fix wanted to find ways to get closer to the things he was studying, to touch, hike and climb them. He turned full time photographer at the same time as he moved to Vancouver, BC with his wife Idalina in 2010.

His approach to visual storytelling has always been driven by a passion for exploration. While trying to focus on less known and more exploratory activities, his goal is to bring people into places they had never seen before, to inspire people and to make them care about the places they live in. His endeavour has brought him on high alpine ridges, murky caves, deep slot canyons, vast forests and dry deserts all over the globe. Among many others, he has worked with Canadian Geographic Magazine, National Geographic Adventure, Outside Magazine, Unis TV, Outside TV, Global TV…

You can regularly see Fix on Unis TV hosting and directing his adventure and conservation show « Terres d’Exploration ». Also check out one of his last movies “Down The Line » where he tells the story of the discovery and exploration of two magnificent canyons near Squamish, BC.
