There is nothing better than inspiration. My most magnificent memories are those in which I’ve found purpose, drive, motivation and challenge. When you’re inspired by a climb these elements come together on the present plane of mind and body, the now. Climbing is always progressing, always evolving, always meeting you at your exact challenge level. It inspires me, makes me a healthier person and drives me to become better. I grew up on the shores of Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra Nevada mountains. My childhood was full of activity - ski racing, water skiing, running, hiking, soccer etc. I found my love for climbing at a very young age but had no source of knowledge beyond the aspen trees of my parents yard, and the boulders along the shoreline. In 2008 I moved to New Hampshire to attend boarding school where I joined the school climbing team, opening the doors to the world of climbing. I moved to Granada, Spain at age 19 where I lived for a year before moving to Vancouver for University. Throughout University I focused my free time on developing trad climbing skills on the multi-pitch faces of the Squamish Chief. The exposure and technicalities of Squamish’s unique rock inspired me to make ascents of classic traditional lines such as The Shadow, 13a, and Edge of Pan, 13b R. I also have done various first ascents across BC, Patagonia, and California. I also love the freedom of scrambling in the mountains which has led me to free solos such as Saint-Exupéry’s Chiaro Di Luna, 11a, 750m in Patagonia and Slesse Mountain’s 25 pitch North Rib, 5.9, 1,000 m. Other noteworthy climbs: The Muir Wall via The Shaft 13c VI (Free*) El [...]
On November 15, 2015 Théo Sanson walked nearly 500 meters on a highline rigged from The Rectory to Castleton Tower in Castle Valley, Utah - likely a new world record. Théo Sanson discovered climbing just before turning 18 and fell madly in love with it, climbing everyday. But it came to a screeching halt at 20 when he took a huge fall, bouncing off the cliff, followed by an arduous three years recovery. During his recovery, Théo was looking for a sport he could enjoy. According to the doctors he could walk, but absolutely no weight on his back. e.g. Nothing requiring a back pack. Luckily, during this period, Théo discovered slacklining and learned to walk, not only on the ground. As he improved, Théo met the Flying Frenchies (an extreme sports, acrobatic, performance team) and was introduced to highlining techniques. Within 6 months Théo knew THIS was going to be his profession one way or an other. He's never looked back.

The ASCA is a bare bones non-profit organization of dedicated climbers who replace unsafe anchors and reduce the visual and environmental impacts of climbing. The ASCA returns classic climbing routes to their original danger level by replacing deteriorating old fixed anchors, usually bolts, with modern camouflaged gear. We do not add bolts to make climbs "safer." Climbing is inherently extremely dangerous. For more information click here. The ASCA has replaced over 14,000 old bolts to date in Yosemite and many other areas throughout the U.S., mostly in the western states. For detailed information on the routes click here. The ASCA has a wide selection of information on bolts, other fixed anchors, and climbing safety. For more information click here. The Jeff Lowe Mountain Foundation's mission is to promote the joys of climbing; secure access and preserve the mountain environment. This 501c3, not for profit corporation, Federal Tax ID: 71-0975247, co - produced Jeff Lowe's Metanoia, the feature length documentary film. To Learn More or Donate... Jeff Lowe's Metanoia is a film about one man's journey from the top of the world to the end of the line. Jeff helped make climbing what it is today, through technical innovation and more than a thousand first ascents, including "Metanoia" on the north face of the Eiger, where he experienced a spiritual transformation that continues to this day. Jeff's story inspires us all, as he brings the creativity and strength that characterized his climbing career to the challenge that he faces today: his own mortality. The Metanoia Journey Starts with Jeff Lowe The life that inspired this movie began in the Wasatch Mountains of Ogden, Utah. In 1950 Jeff Lowe was the fourth of what would eventually become a total of eight children born to Ralph and Elgene Lowe. Ralph passed down his love of all things wild to his offspring, and Elgene never allowed her own fears for her kids to interfere with their dreams. Jeff was skiing with his parents and older siblings by the time he was four, and started climbing with his dad and older brothers, Mike and Greg, at six. At seven Jeff became the youngest person to climb Wyoming's Grand Teton when Ralph took Jeff and Greg up the Exum Ridge. Jeff began ski-racing in 1959. For more than a decade ski racing and climbing battled to be the focus of Lowe's passion. - Read More About Jeff -

In 2002, I survived what many would consider an impossible event. I was dropped 100 feet from an anchor in CO to the ground, hitting the talus blocks standing, and destroying most of my body. The fall resulted in a fused back, L1-L4, and fused neck, C5-6, chronic pain, numerous broken bones, and lastly, the amputation of my right leg below the knee. For most, that would mean a life of low expectations, pain, and regret. I’ve really never been “most” people! I returned to climbing three months after amputating my leg, and once I figured out how my new body worked, began to rebuild my mind. It took about two years, but I slowly began to climb at the levels I had done prior to the accident. Once I felt good again, I began working towards some firsts in the world of adaptive climbing. Here are a few: 1st Amputee to climb El Capitan in Yosemite in under a day. 1st Amputee to climb The Nose of El Capitan in a day. Lead the first All Disabled Ascent of El Capitan. Current Paraclimbing National Champion. 2 Bronze Medal in 2015 Paraclimbing World Championships, Spain., and France, 2012 ABS National Paraclimbing Champion 2012/2013 For me, going back to climbing was never in question, its more about what can I do and who can I help that matter to me. I work with Paradox Sports to take disabled people climbing for the first time, or to get them back out after an injury, and I continue to push my limits outside on new routes and established lines. A big part of me recovering is the support network I had and I try to give that support to others as [...]
About Adventure Scientists We enable informed conservation decisions by supplying partners with difficult to obtain data, grassroots support, and outreach by leveraging the unique skills of the adventure community. Special Ops for Conservation Adventure Scientists is a 501 (c)3 organization based in Bozeman, Montana. Since our founding in 2011, Adventure Scientists has sent thousands of specialized adventurers on missions to collect data from remote, difficult-to-access locations for our conservation partners. These partnerships have led to the discovery of more than two dozen new species, provided key information to guide climate change decision-making, and helped protect threatened wildlife habitat around the world. Our work has been featured in more than 100 media outlets, and our volunteer adventurers are making a difference around the world. Not Your Typical Citizen Science Citizen science is one of the most rapidly growing fields within the scientific community. However, the focus in these volunteer driven research efforts is often solely on the education of the volunteer. Adventure Scientists exists to provide our partners the data they need to make informed decisions. Our emphasis is on recruiting individuals who have the necessary skills to plan and execute successful expeditions, because these skills are transferable to successful scientific data collection. The same attention to detail, ability to creatively problem solve, and wherewithal to persevere in difficult environments ensures success in both fields. We are a capacity building service, building projects from the ground up. With each new project, we address our partners' specific needs and provide the data needed to inform species and habitat management. We recruit, train and manage skilled volunteers, saving our partners time, money and effort. EXPLORE OUR WORK Featured Adventure Scientists Films "Gregg Treinish: A [...]

ABOUT US OUR MISSION IS TO ENGAGE AND MOBILIZE THE SNOWSPORTS COMMUNITY TO LEAD THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE. OUR FOCUS IS ON EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES, ADVOCACY AND COMMUNITY-BASED ACTIVISM. The past decade has been the warmest on record, with 2015 the warmest year ever. Meanwhile, the northern hemisphere has already lost a million square miles of spring snowpack since 1970—an area the size of three Texases. Snow levels are rising and winters are shorter. Climate change is already affecting winter. By 2007, pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones found that more and more resorts he’d always counted on for good riding were closed due to lack of snow. Something was clearly going on, and he felt the need to act. But he couldn’t find any organizations focused on mobilizing the snowsports community on climate — there was a gap between the impacts that climate change was already having on our mountains, and any organized action being taken to address it. And so Jeremy founded Protect Our Winters. Soon afterwards, we brought on other concerned pro athletes, individuals, resorts and winter sports companies. The result: the kernel of a social movement on climate, designed to activate a passionate community and create the political will for meaningful action by state and federal policymakers. And what better place to germinate a movement than the snowsports community, which includes world renowned athletes, respected, and beloved businesses, and is defined, above all, by passion and energy. This was the perfect group to give a national voice to winter tourism, an industry that supports 900,000+ jobs and creates $66 billion in economic revenue. While the fossil fuel lobby may outspend environmentalists 20-1 in Washington, we share a passion that crosses party lines, [...]

Big City Mountaineers transforms the lives of under-served urban youth through wilderness mentoring expeditions that instill critical life skills. We partner with community-based youth organizations and caring adult volunteers who act as mentors in the field to help young people realize their potential. Our curriculum improves integrity, self- esteem, responsibility, decision-making abilities and communication skills in close to 1,000 youth annually. BCM has a proven track record of improving young peoples’ lives with: Increased likeliness to stay in school Reduction in violence Reduction in drug use In addition to adult mentors who donate a week of their lives to improve the future of the youth we serve, we also rely on the support of our Summit for Someone climbers. Without the dozens of courageous volunteers who sign up for Summit For Someone each year, BCM would cease to exist. Our SFS climbers take on two formidable commitments: mentally and physically preparing to climb one of North America’s most challenging peaks, and raising thousands of dollars. All to help improve the lives of kids they might never meet. THE TEAM AT BIG CITY MOUNTAINEERS WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL OUR COLLEAGUES IN THIS ENDEAVOR: OUR VOLUNTEERS, CLIMBERS AND DONORS.
