Synopsis: Far removed from the pomp and pageantry of races like the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, Halter Off offers an unapologetic look at the underbelly of horse racing in Charles Town, West Virginia and one man’s shot at a second chance. There, veteran trainer Angelo Jackson competes not for fame, or prestige, or glory, but as a means of survival. At a severe financial disadvantage in a rich man’s sport, Angelo grinds out wins with the horses discarded by other owners and trainers, relying on his prowess and instinct to succeed. However, when his checkered past sees him banned from the grounds of the track, and facing the biggest race of his life against his longtime rival and mentor looming just weeks away, Angelo is under the gun. He looks to Halter Off, the first horse he’s raised on his own, to win a race that will do more than bring his books into the black: it will define his career.

Director's Bio

In 2011, Jake co-founded Eastward Films with creative partner Jamie Young and currently heads up Eastward West, located in Santa Monica, CA. Eastward has served as a platform for their own work but also the work of outside writers, directors, and producers. Since infancy Eastward has grown to a bi-costal production company bringing these same techniques and enthusiasm to the branded and advertising world serving Fortune 500 companies all across the U.S. In 2018, Jake opened a dedicated Unscripted Development Department at Eastward bringing in industry veterans and filmmakers to create, direct, and produce feature and episodic programming for digital and broadcast platforms. While Jake continues to work on branded campaigns and heads up the unscripted development department of Eastward Films, he has documentaries slated for festival and digital release in both 2018 and 2019.

Jamie co-founded Eastward (nee Eastward Films) in 2011 with Jake. Since then, he’s written scripts and storyboards, directed films and brand marketing videos, received awards for his writing and directing, and grown Eastward from a dream in a basement to a nationally-recognized video production company that works with top brands and marketing agencies across the country. He has twelve years of experience in the film and television industries, makes a great fish taco, and insists that the 9:30 Club is the best music venue in the country. Jamie heads up Eastward East, located in Washington DC.
