Karen’s Ultimate Challenge
Synopsis: Paralyzed from the chest down, Karen Darke tackles an epic kayaking expedition with her partner, mountaineer Andy Kirkpatrick. In a remote region of Patagonia they face dangerous currents and tides in their quest to get to Laguna San Rafael and its famous glacier. Karen Darke has been paralyzed since a climbing accident in 1993 and initially felt like, ‘a prisoner within my own body.’ Yet in spite of being a paraplegic, she has undertaken a number of extreme challenges – cycling, climbing and kayaking. Nothing, it seems, can dampen her adventurous spirit and she has become an inspiration to all who meet her. But has she pushed herself too far with this expedition to Patagonia? In one of the world’s most remote places, with little hope of rescue if things go wrong and with few places to camp en route, this turns out to be the most committing journey Karen has ever attempted.
