Director's Bio
Hello! My name is Cindy Galloway
Hello and Welcome! My name is Cindy Galloway (maiden name Shearer) and I am an artist. I have always been an artist, from drawing spiders at 3 to horses at 6, my passion is creativity in all areas of life. Everything I look at is a painting, my view of the immediate scenery and the world in general always includes designing something creative, eclectic, classical and sometimes a tad quirky.
My abilities as an artist & designer are born partly by genetics, my mother dabbled very well in painting & enjoyed the pencil as well. My father was an inventor of the sorts, as well as an incredible chemist.
I graduated from Hillsdale College, Hillsdale Michigan with a BA in Fine Arts.
My creativity spans the gamut from sewing, to painting, drawing, decorating & cooking. My studio is free from constraints – one day it can be a classical canvas of an equestrian scene, a spectacular elegant hand painted lazy susan, belt buckle and the next your favorite furry friend or beautiful functional tray for your home. I enjoy painting old tack trunks, furniture, creating containers for gorgeous lush flower arrangements. I love to cook, creatively combining colors, flavors, & texture is just as elemental to me as having a paint brush in my hand. Fuel for my mind centers around my amazingly talented & creative husband Steve, our 3 dogs The Pelican, Tia & Sir Baden Sinclair the Sausage as well as our two horses, Quattro & Yellow Horse.
My love for equines & animals in general began as a young girl, swimming in the creek behind our house and catching carp & tadpoles (my mom had to ask me to return the living aquatic beasts frequently to the creek – I had them in a bucket next to my bed). I consider all living things to have the same importance as humans – I really hate to even kill flies in our horse barn although my horses certainly don’t agree here. On to the equine history….
My equestrian activities began with riding english, dabbling in local shows & riding in the Wayne-Dupage Hunt (a drag pack – not fox hunting) club. After some pretty bad wrecks & injuries to match I have jumped ship to enjoy western dressage & moseying’ on the trails with my husband Steve.
I am a classically trained oil painter & photographer (I still think in ‘film’ setting) I love to meld different animals & subjects into what could be perceived as a ‘traditional setting’. My brain works akin to Dr. Seuss – designing & creating in my mind a very free, no rules, no box sort of outcome – quirky & eccentric?, perhaps. Painting furniture, decorative yet functional items, signs, event posters & just about anything I please is what I do.
