Director's Statement
Everything’s Fine is a short psychological thriller with some horror elements sprinkled throughout. The story follows a routine day in the life of new mother, Kathleen. As she tries hard to keep her perfect house pristine, we begin to see her unravel mentally, revealing that she is clearly suffering from Postpartum OCD.
Lisa Cisneros (the writer) went through a mild case of Postpartum OCD after having her son. Postpartum OCD can manifest in unthinkable ways such as having horrific, murderous and/or abusive thoughts about your own baby. My goal was to capture Kathleen’s emotional, and terrifying, roller-coaster of a day by making her a prisoner in her beautiful home that presents so many macabre options for potentially harming her baby. I wanted to display this through a horror lens to really hit home how truly scary this disorder can be for the person suffering from it. Our goal as a team was to create a short film that makes its audience uneasy and feel like they are part of this 13-minute panic attack, in addition to shining light on Postpartum OCD.
