Director's Statement
When writing Windows To Nowhere I looked inside my own life, the separation of a family and dealing with grief.
The story has moments in it that are based on a true story, but the death is more a metaphor to show a mother who lost her daughter.
I found this beautiful location in Long Island, NY, and was able to convince the home owner to let us shoot there,
we booked 3 additional houses for Crew and Cast, and all of us stayed there for 5-6 days.
I was broke when the shoot was over but it was totally worth it, and I had a lot of very kind friends who pitched in.
Brette Taylor, our lead actress, was the perfect choice for Elise, she really felt every emotion I was trying to express in the screenplay. I couldn’t have dreamed about a better collaboration.
Daryl Pittman, my Cinematographer, thankfully owns Camera and Lighting Gear, and came all the way up from Washington D.C. to shoot our little short film.
Daryl and I met on a Feature Film that he shot and that I worked on as a Script Supervisor in March 2019, we became friends. We went over almost every shot beforehand, and talked about the mood of the film, and he made a plan regarding lighting beforehand, which was crucial because we barely had any time to use the bathroom, since we had 34 scenes to shoot in 4 days.
