Storyteller, Threes Anna will be sharing insights from a couple of scenes from her film "Silent City" featured in June/July as a part of the Lady Filmmakers Channel Subscription as well from her experiences in real life that she turned into artistic endeavors.
Threes Anna is a writer and director from the Netherlands who works in three fields; theatre, film and literature. She lives on a small island, which was the main inspiration for het last movie The Warden. A tragic comedy about an old man who lives alone, on a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Threes Anna is trained as a visual artist. For ten years she was the artistic director of the international theatre company Dogtroep. In this capacity she wrote and directed over 50 site-specific theatrical spectacles all across the globe. Performances were staged on the remains of the Berlin Wall, during the war in Yugoslavia, just after the first elections in South Africa, in the snow at the Winter Olympics in France and in the Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam.
One of these shows, Noordwesterwals - a spectacular performance with two million liter of water - she transformed into her first film. She made her debut as writer-director in 2007 on the San Sebastian Film Festival with The Bird Can’t Fly. This film, with Barbara Hershey in the lead and won many international prizes. In 2012 her second feature film Silent Cityalso premiered at the same festival. In 2014 she made Platina Blues, a 40 min one-single-shot music film, which was nominated for the world’s most risk shot. And in 2020 her last movie the Warden was launched.
Threes Anna wrote several novels. The bestseller Waiting for the Monsoon was translated into several languages. Besides she writes columns, short stories and made a few documentaries. Currently she is working on a fiction podcast series.
