Director's Statement
As a director and producer of feature films and documentaries for over 12 years, I was ready to make another movie. Most of my films have been made out of my home state of Maryland, so I thought it was time to make one locally.
When I was searching for a script, I found Christmas Ranch, written by Simon Parker from England. It is a wonderful story about families and horses! He and I were both thrilled about the story and I felt the connection of the Grandmother’s love for her Granddaughter. I had a loving Grandmother, too, that helped me when I was going through a rough time as a teenager. Now with a teenager of my own, it felt right to do a family film based in my hometown near Baltimore – home of the Preakness, the second leg of the Triple Crown, the Maryland Million, and the Maryland Hunt Cup races. Horses are in Maryland’s blood. When it came time for location scouting, we went no further than GreenMount Farm where the Melissaratos and Moore Families opened up their 40 acre horse farm to us and we were so thankful!
We filmed in December and the talented cast was chosen from Maryland, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. The starring horse of the film, Hope, traveled from The Smith Farm in Virginia and is a lovely pony! We were also fortunate to have Senior Senator, Sabrina Moore’s horse from Greenmount Farm, who was the winner of the 120th running of the Maryland Hunt Cup 2016 which is considered one of the most difficult steeplechase races in the world! The film is a triumphant story of family, love and 2nd chances. I hope you enjoy the film as much as we did making it! DBM
Director's Bio
Douglas B. Maddox is an award winning American Film Producer, Executive Producer, and Director. Douglas Maddox was inducted into the Producers Guild of America in July 2007 and has since served as the Founding National Capital Chair. Douglas was honored with the Marc A. Levy distinguished service award in 2011. He is best known for producing the film, The Bill Collector, starring Danny Trejo and Undaunted, an award winning biopic on the early life of noted author and speaker Josh McDowell.
