This is a participant-led film developed as part of our project, ‘The Big Picture’ focusing on youth drug addiction in Assam, India. After a four-hour long interview with a female recovery addict (24 years old) for our research, we thought of making a short film together to highlight how she perceived her recovery journey to be different from that of the males in Assam. This film was made during the lockdown period of COVID-19 with limited resources and through virtual discussions and coordination with the participant.

Raginie Duara shares an interest in understanding the youth culture and the various issues faced by this group of people who often tend to fall between the cracks in psychological research related to life span development. She seeks to understand how such issues and coping mechanisms sit within the broader historical and cultural context whilst dealing with challenges of establishing an identity and a ‘place in this world’. With her expertise in qualitative research methods, she is currently working on youth addiction and developing short films along with participants who have successfully resisted or recovered from alcohol and/or drug addiction.
